NEWSFLASH: Father, boyfriend arrested for rape

The police in Giyani have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping his 15-year-old biological daughter and her 25-year-old boyfriend for statutory rape. 

Police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the two men were arrested on Tuesday, 27 October.

“It is alleged that this father from a village in the Giyani policing area, went out to look for the victim after she left home on Saturday, 24 October. He found her at her boyfriend’s place. Immediately after that, he took her to the police station to open a case of statutory rape,” he said.

Ngoepe said the police then informed the local social worker for further assessment.

He said it was then revealed that the victim’s father also raped her on separate occasions in 2019 and 2020 and thereafter threatened her not tell anyone. Both suspects were then arrested.

The provincial commissioner police in Limpopo, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has strongly condemned the incident.

“As we continue to fight against the scourge of gender-based violence, including the sexual offences, it is very disturbing that even those meant to protect their own children are also involved in these crimes. We commend the police for acting swiftly in arresting both suspects, concluded Ledwaba.

Ngoepe said the suspects will appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 October facing a charges of rape and statutory rape.

The police investigation is continuing.
