Mopani commits to support tourism

The Mopani District Municipality has committed to assist the tourism industry to survive beyond Covid-19.

The executive mayor of Mopani District Municipality, Pule Shayi made the commitment last week during his visit to Modjadji Nature Reserve in Bolobedu and Royal Khalanga Lodge at N’wamitwa as part of his program of monitoring the impact of Covid-19 on tourism establishments.

He said that forging partnerships on capacity building programmes should be prioritized.

“We need to forge partnerships that will ensure that tourism establishments sustain existing jobs and create more much needed opportunities. Also are able to preserve our heritage as a district,” said Shayi.

The leader of the Valoyi Traditional Authority, Chief Phillia N’wamitwa has told Shayi that Royal Khalanga Lodge has the potential to create job opportunities for many young people.

The lodge was funded by the Department of Tourism.

She applauded the support the Royal Council continues to receive from Mopani District Municipality, and expressed confidence that the new district development model will fast track service delivery.

Shayi added that the Mopani District Municipality is strategically located to mobilise resources in support of the tourism industry.

He further said that it was important for tourism establishments to be properly registered and also to register employees with the UIF in order to benefit from government support packages.
