Transport gives clarity on licence renewals

The Department of Transport has clarified the uncertainty surrounding various licence renewals and expiry deadlines.

According to the directions published by the department, the following deadlines were set out: Motor vehicle licence discs, temporary permits and roadworthy certificates that expired during the period that commenced from 26 March up to and including 31 May were deemed to be valid for a period ending on 31 August.

All learner’s licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences and professional driving permits that expired during the period that commenced from 26 March up to and including the 31 August are deemed to be valid for a period ending on 31 January, next year.

Motor trade number licences that expired during the period that commenced from 26 March up to and including the 31 May are deemed to be valid for a period ending 31 November.

“It must be taken into account that no further extensions will be granted and those who fail to renew on time will have to pay applicable penalties or face the necessary repercussions for late renewal,” said spokesperson of the Ministry of Transport, Ayanda Allie Paine.
