Police launch manhunt for rhino poachers

The police in Lulekani have launched a manhunt for the alleged poachers who shot and killed two rhinos on different locations on one of the game farms near Swelane village.

The incidents occurred on 24 and 25 August.

According to police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe, it is alleged that farm workers were patrolling the area in the afternoon when they found one rhino killed, on Monday 24 August at about 15:00.

“It seems the poachers got disturbed and and as a result they failed to remove the horns from the rhino,” said Ngoepe.

Meanwhile, on the Tuesday, police were summoned to another crime scene in the same area.

“They reacted swiftly and on arrival, one rhino was also found killed and its horns removed.

The suspects on both the two incidents are still unknown and there has been no arrests yet,” said Ngoepe.

Police investigation and the manhunt for the suspects are still underway.
