GLM fails to maintain damaged roads

Residents say they are fed up of municipal officials turning a blind eye on the potholes in the roads which require fixing.

Greater Letaba Municipality is accused of failing to maintain access streets which are littered with potholes and awash with water spilling out of damaged pipes in some parts of Modjadjiskloof.

Residents say they are fed up of municipal officials turning a blind eye on the potholes in the roads which require fixing, particularly on Uitsig and Mabel Streets. They claim the potholes in some streets have not been repaired since last year and it appears there is no interest on the part of the municipality to do maintenance.

“It is crystal clear that the municipality is unable to fulfill its obligations in delivering basic services to the residents of this town,” said a concerned resident. He called for swift action from municipal authorities with regard to fixing access roads.

Municipal spokesperson, Lovers Maenetje, said that a contractor was appointed for the rehabilitation of Uitsig Street at the end of February. “We couldn’t start with work due to the nationwide lockdown in March. It’s only now that we can resume work at level 3 and hand-over of the site is scheduled to take place soon,” said Maenetje.
