Tzaneen: Joint Covid-19 operation leads to the discovery of 14 bags of marijuana

The police stated that following a tip-off, they discovered a total of 14 bags of marijuana with an estimated street value of R844 800.

Accroding to Sgt Maurice Nkhwashu, the police got tipped off about marijuana distribution in Bolobedu South yesterday at about 14:00.

The joint operation comprised of Tzaneen detectives led by Col Marius Botha and the K9 unit, saw the swift response from both teams in following up on the information they were given.

“The teams descended on a house in Bokhuta village, Bolobedu South where upon arrival they searched the house and discovered 14 carefully wrapped mielie bags each full of marijuana,” stated Sgt Nkhwashu.

He told Herald that the owner of the house was arrested and a case of dealing in dagga was opened at the Tzaneen police station.

“The miellie bags weighed a total of 211.2kg with an estimated street value of R844 800.”

He further stated that the suspect will appear in court on a date still to be mentioned. More on this in the next edition of Letaba Herald.
