Local man from Tzaneen takes to the skies

Nkuna was involved in a tragic accident that left him badly injured and almost crushed his dream from materialising in 2016.

Brilliant Nkuna says that being a hard worker has opened doors for him and he is now living the life of his dreams.

Although not the smartest learner in class, he knew he had to work extra hard to achieve his dream of one day becoming a pilot. Born and bred at Joppie Village in the Nwamitwa area, he wanted to be a police officer like his late father, Perdney Nkuna.

“But my father said I must strive to become more in life and that I must dream bigger.”

A trip to Tarentaal airstrip to learn about airplanes changed his life forever. After that he knew what he wanted to become in life. He is currently finishing both his commercial pilot’s license and aircraft maintenance engineering at Skyhawks Aviation at Lanseria Airport.

“Being a pilot does not feel like a job, I feel like I’m getting paid to practice my hobby. However, it requires discipline and hard work to become a pilot,” he added.

In 2016, a tragic accident where both his hands and ribs were badly injured, almost crushed his dream from materialising.

“I am forever grateful to God for giving me a second chance,” he says.

He also added that he has a good support system that is made up of his mother, Basani Nkuna, his family, Apostle and Prophetess Nukeri and Case Ngobeni. He encourages his community and other youngsters to stay away from substance abuse as fulfilling your dreams requires one to be sober.
