Man from Gauteng who travelled to Tzaneen has tested positive

Tracker teams from the Department of Health has found a man from Gauteng who has tested positive for the Coronavirus in a village outside of Tzaneen in Limpopo.

A man that was tested for the Coronavirus and travelled to Limpopo before his positive results were known, was allegedly found in a village outside of Tzaneen.

The Limpopo Health Department says that their tracker teams found the man and he was arrested by the police.

The department said in a statement the man was tested in Gauteng but did not self-isolate as is required until tests become available. When his results came out positive, tracer teams in Gauteng struggled to locate him. He was found in Limpopo where police arrested him and taken into isolation by the department.

The department did not want to confirm the location to the Herald.  Neil Shikwambana, spokesperson to the department, said revealing the location might lead to panic and retribution among communities and villagers.

Meanwhile other credible sources have been giving the location as a village outside of Tzaneen. The name of the village is known to Herald.

Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba said her department will not hesitate to take in anyone who breaks the rules. “Being an under resourced province, the only way we can win this battle is to ensure that those who must be screened and tested do so, and those who must self quarantine and isolate also do so. Those who fail to observe these basics and expose our communities to danger will be taken in,” said Ramathuba.

The MEC said her department is worried that they might have their hands full dealing with potential of “imported” cases of people who deliberately ignored the call for lockdown. “The inter movements of people between provinces will obviously bear consequences as we have said. We just have to be prepared to fight hard because for now there is nothing we can do about it, it is what it is,” she said.
