400 athletes came from as far as Hoedspruit, Phalaborwa and Johannesburg to take part in the annual Wik Triathlon in Magoebaskloof on Sunday.
“The serious athletes participated in the Stanfordian which drew professional triathletes from as far afield as Johannesburg. The Wik individual and team events were well supported by local die-hards as well as many who were giving it a go for the first time. But the highlight of the day was the kiddies event,” said Jennifer Noné, race and event organiser.
The event is a tribute to former staff member of Stanford Lake College, Wik van der Walt. “The event was superb and it just keeps getting better and better,” said Martin van der Walt, Wik van der Walt’s brother.
“The sponsors of the event definitely brought their A-game with FNB Business, Talisman Hire, Dust Suppression Technologies, The Paint Pot Group, Expedition North, Trophy Toyota, Letaba Wireless and Midnight Springs all coming out in full force to support our community,” said Noné.
