Hospital launches new standardised menu

The CEO of Letaba Hospital, Mcdonald Sibuyi officially launched the Provincial 8 Days Standardise Menu Cycle at the public institution recently

The new nutritious menu was a call from the MEC for the Department of Health in Limpopo, Dr Phophi Ramathuba for all hospitals to start implementing and adopting.

Sibuyi said that if patients and the broader public eat nutritious food there won’t be any need for people to constantly run to the doctor.

“Quality food keeps a doctor away” he said.

He further told his workers that the menu is not only for patients, but for them to also implement in their homes and as a result it will prevent them from taking unnecessary sick leaves.

The event was graced with the presence of different stakeholders such as Organised Labour Representative, Samora Mashele; Chairperson of the Board of the Letaba Hospital, Schoolboy Shiluvana and Mopani Department of Health representative, Masilo Mohale amongst others.

Patients given lunch

Mohale believes the MEC’s call is a good direction which will be fundamental in the patients recorvery and healing process.

“Please make sure that you provide our patients with quality food and at all times the kitchen must be clean.

“Serve them on time and with a smile all the time,” he urged the institution’s employees.

Mohale also further told the finance department that they need to make sure that they release funds to buy the necessary food for the patients and if they don’t they are also contributing to the patients delayed healing process.

Meanwhile Shiluvana also applauded the MEC together with the CEO of the hospital for the great job they are doing in the institution.

After the formal launch Sibuyi together with his operational management team went to the kitchen where they cooked an entire lunch for the patients.

After preparing the meal they further went to served the patients.

Martha Sibanda, Head of Dietetics and Food Service in the hospital was leading the team and making sure that the standard of the food is of quality.

Moments after the day’s activities the Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni applauded team Letaba for their good work and promised to visit the next day.

Mboweni lived upto his words and visited the local public facility where he was afforded the opportunity to be taken around the hospital.

Later on the day Dr Ramathuba also visited the hospital to support the tonsillectomy procedures that were under way.

On one of Sibuyi’s social media posts he said he one parent of the child who benefited from the project, thanked him, because she was about to go to a bank to borrow almost R20 000 to take her child to a private hospital.
