Tzaneen: Driving school allegedly a scam

A source who spoke to Letaba Herald on anonymity told Herald about a driving school conductor that robs people of their money.

It has been alleged that Thabang Matsaka of Batsaka Driving School in Ga-Kgapane has robbed several people of their money under the guise that he would help them obtain driving licenses.

The source told Herald that she was referred to the driving school by a colleague she works with as he had a hassle-free process while doing his drivers license there.

“I thought to myself, because I don’t quite have too much time on my hands that I could have mine done with them too. I was told of a few charges relating to the process, to which I then paid R1500 upfront and I was given a date to start on. When I got there on the day, he was not there and I was given the run around,” stated the source.

She further stated that she took the matter up with the police as weeks had gone by and she still had not heard back from Thabang regarding her driving lessons. “They told me to take the matter up with the family first before I open a case as I was not the first person to go to the police about him. I did so and they said they would refund me my money. It has been three months now and I still have not been given my money back and neither he or his family take my calls anymore,” she explained.

Herald got hold of Thabang and he stated that he was in the process of paying the source her money back.

“Right now I am trying to generate the funds. Hopefully by the coming week I will have the money to pay her back. However, I am only aware of having to pay R1 300, not R1500,” he explained.

Herald also contacted the Bolobedu SAPS spokesperson, Captain Kgetha Ramphele to inquire about any complaints being lodged regarding the driving school.

“There have been several cases opened which are being handled personally by myself. We have managed to resolve about two cases. There is one wherein one of the Matsaka cars was taken by one of the victims who claimed he would only return it upon receiving his money back. If anyone encounters further problems with this driving school, they can come to the police station and ask to speak to me about it,” Ramphele said.
