“What I normally do is tell the students about possible opportunities that they can apply for and have them send their CV’s to the companies in need of people,” stated Mphela.

Adding onto this, Hlayisi made mention of how it would be even more helpful to have the students undergo a training session with regards to how they can and should answer questions during interviews.

“Working in HR, I have experienced a lot of cases where people do not know how to answer during interviews. So instead of simply helping them put their CV’s out there, also offer assistance in making them better equipped to answer questions. It is of extreme importance to have people apply themselves and show a high level of interest in the job they are applying for and the training can help them with that,” exclaimed the guest speaker.

She emphasised with high regard how crucial it is to have people undergo skills development from within an institute of learning.

The take away advise that Hlayisi gave to the attendees was that they should learn to utilise opportunities by implementing action towards not only grabbing and securing a spot in the workplace but by also working hard to see themselves in better positions wherever they may be seeking employment.
