Phalaborwa: Decomposed body discovered

A badly decomposed body was found on the R40 road.

A badly decomposed body was found on the R40 Road lying in the bushes on Monday, August 26, by a passerby.

The police were contacted to the scene after a passerby happened to spot the body. The police could not estimate how long the body had been lying there. It is believed that the body is that of a female aged between 30 and 40 years old.

“The police in Phalaborwa are investigating and a Case of Inquest was opened following the shocking recovery of the unknown female body,” stated the Phalaborwa Police Station Communicator, Sergeant Elvis Mongwe.

He said that the decomposed body was found lying in the bushes next to the heavy industrial area not far from the Makhushane 4-Way-Stop along the R40 Road in Phalaborwa at about 14:00.

“A passerby spotted the body and immediately reported it to the Police who then responded swiftly, and upon their arrival they found a badly decomposed body of a middle-aged African woman lying in the stream,” Mongwe mentioned, also stating that the body was lying on its stomach and wearing a maroon top, blue Jean skirt and black shoes with braided hair.

He said that different role players were summoned to the scene and the body was taken by the forensic pathologist to Maphutha Hospital so that an autopsy could be conducted.

“The cause of her death is not yet known at this stage, but the ongoing police investigation will reveal it,” continued Mongwe. He also said that the police appealed to the community to assist in identifying the deceased and to come forward with information that could assist in ensuring that those who are responsible for her death face the might of the law of South Africa.
