TZANEEN: A celebration set out for local heroes

After being exposed to the caring, friendly and giving community of Tzaneen, Anne French has set out to celebrate local organisations that are making a difference in their communities.

The Tzaneen Community Forum (TCF) will be hosting an event that sets out to recognise the efforts made by local organisations and individuals who make a difference in their communities.

The ‘Unsung Hero’ campaign is a brain child of the TCF’s secretary, Anne French, who says she was inspired by the caring, giving nature of people in and around Tzaneen.

“People here genuinely love helping each other and that is one of the most beautiful things I have come to notice about the atmosphere here. That is why we want to do this campaign as a way of celebrating local heroes who make a difference but think their efforts go unnoticed,” explained French.

The campaign will run on a community based entry and voting basis, where each nominee will be thoroughly checked by the TCF to determine whether or not an organisation is legitimate and if it isn’t, the forum will help with getting the organisation accredited.

“The thing is, people want to help where they can and sometimes they don’t understand that in order to do so rightfully, they have to be registered. Some people know this but don’t know how to go about it and as the forum, we will be helping them with that. Through this, we are hoping to grow the connections of organisations locally, wherein we will show them that it is okay to ask for help when they need it,” she exclaimed.

“We have a vision and a mission as the TCF and that is to co-ordinate, support, direct and lead the individual and combined efforts of our members in particular, and the social welfare efforts of the community in general, to such effective levels so as to alleviate the suffering of the needy inTzaneen and surrounds. Our is mission is to work systematically and tirelessly in order to provide a coherent and effective platform where the combined social effort can operate to their maximum potential,” added French.

At the moment, the campaign is still in the planning process, with a special surprise in store for the public in terms of performances.

The event is set to take place on Thursday, October 31 with an ‘African Tradition’ theme to the night.

“Because it will be a formal, summer ball, cocktail party atmosphere, anyone can come attend the event in a traditionally made dress with beads that fall in line with the colour schemes. We just want the evening to be ‘a night to remember’ for everyone. And because it is for the people, by the people, what better way than to have a theme like this?” she asked with a cheer in her voice.

More details about the event, registration and voting will be in Letaba Herald as information is made available.
