The newly crowned Miss Limpopo, Mpho ‘Aurora’ Malatji says she would like to build an art academy in the province during her reign with the relevant financial support.
She believes that art has the ability to afford young people a platform to express themselves and to introduce them to a world of opportunities.
Her art journey started at a primary school level and she is now a dancer, a recording musician and a poet.
Malatji (22) from Sekororo outshined 12 other pageant queens from all over the province at Rabie Ridge Lodge in Polokwane on Saturday, June 29.
The year 2019 is a special year for her as she is also the reigning Miss Greater Tzaneen Royal Nobility 2019. In 2018 she was part of the four finalist of the TV show, Showville the Tzaneen edition and she is a full time medicine student at the University of Pretoria.
She told Letaba Herald that pageants are still relevant today in the community, because it gives a sense of sistahood and belonging amongst young women.
“I am currently busy with an NGO founded by Mabilu Malatji in which we invite students from different universities to teach in different high schools in the Sekororo area. Now with my new title we can expand to other areas in Limpopo,” she explained when asked what projects is she involved in.
Malatji promises to host a music festival/talent show for young people from different villages to showcase their talents, which will hopefully encourage them to dream big.
