TZANEEN: Local paramedic honoured

The community came together to show their gratitude for Ratwaga's effort.

A local paramedic was celebrated through soccer and awarded for his heroic commitment in his community.

This comes after an off-duty paramedic, Mohale Ratwaga stepped in to help a soccer player who had sustained an injury while playing in a tournament three weeks ago.

Four local teams from Pharare village, namely Pharare Shining Stars, Pharare Happy Fighters, Pharare Happy Stars and Pharare Northern Chiefs came together and not only organised a game day for the heroic paramedic, but also collected money to buy food for the honorary ceremony they had planned, as well as to have a certificate made for Ratwaga.

As a way of giving the game and the ceremony a personalised touch, and to thank Ratwaga who was being honored, Sipho Mathipa, who is still recovering from his injured leg, came on his crutches.

Mohale Ratwaga and his wife, Mavis after Ratwaga was honoured by the community and soccer players.

“This was very unexpected, I did not think such a small act would result in such a big celebration and honor for myself by my community. I was caught off-guard as they planned the entire thing as a surprise and truly speaking, it just feels so good to have your efforts realised and be honored while you’re still alive. I cannot begin to thank them enough for what they have done. This has truly shown me the true essence of humanity and that indeed little acts of kindness do go a long way for people,” exclaimed Ratwaga with a cheer in his voice.

Also present at the ceremony was his wife, Mavis Ratwaga who was delighted at the sight of seeing her beloved husband being honored by their community.

Pharas Lelope who first brought the story to Letaba Herald, exclaimed how important it was for them to show their gratitude to Ratwaga as he did not have to go beyond the call of duty when he helped Mathipa, but did it out of the goodness of his heart.
