HOEDSPRUIT: Smiles and tears on Keira’s return

Little Keira had been receiving treatment for Lyme Disease in Germany through the help, support and prayers of the Hoedspruit community.

A moment of joy and relief hit the town and locals of Hoedspruit as Keira Rutherford landed at the Eastgate Airport in Hoedspruit last Wednesday.

She was greeted with cheer, smiles, flowers, gifts and the warm presence of the community.

Little Keira had gone to Germany to receive treatment last month for Lyme Disease and it was made possible by the generosity and care of the Hoedies community.

The same generosity and care were displayed as Keira was being helped down the ramp to meet her ‘welcome home’ party attenders.

Rutherford failed to hold back the tears as she saw just how much of an effort was made for her on the day. Speaking to Hoedspruit Herald last Wednesday, the organiser of the party, Debby Thomson stated that everyone was anticipating seeing for themselves the progress that little Keira has made thus far.

Having watched videos of her taking her first steps and when she helped herself off the wheelchair to place her name on the map displayed at the hospital in Germany, it is understandable as to why the community could not wait to welcome their angel back home.

A post from the day she arrived read, “Today was a very emotional and exciting day. A big thank you to AIRLINK and the pilots bringing Keira and Lana safe back home. Jacque van Niekerk thank you for walking the extra mile, making sure they got on the plane with their luggage. We are so thankful for everything you did this morning at OR Tambo. Everything worked out so amazing with all Keira’s school friends, parents and town friends. She had such a warm welcome from everyone that even tourists around us were in tears. It’s so nice to have them back home and looking forward to a good nights rest. We want to thank each and every one for caring and praying for Keira. We will keep you all up to date with Keira’s progress and news.”
