Dates set for memorial and funeral services of 24 perished youth

Joint efforts are being made by a preparatory team to ensure a befitting send off for the deceased.

The 24 youths that died in a head-on collision between a bus and a minibus taxi along the R81 on Sunday have all been identified and funeral arrangements have been set.

A Preparatory Team comprised of government departments, the Mopani District Municipality, Greater Letaba Municipality, SANTACO, businesses, traditional leaders and other stakeholders have been able to identify all 24 deceased from the R81 accident between Moketsi and Giyani.

It is stated that 19 of the 24 deceased were learners from four local schools in Ga-Kgapane, while the others were community members.

The deceased come from nine different villages in the Bolobedu cluster, with a majority of them coming from Ga-Rapitsi village and they were identified to be between the ages of 13 and 27.

The Mayor of the Greater Letaba Municipality, Peter Matlou commended the effort that has been made thus far by the team and urges them to continue showing their support to the families during their trying times.

Meanwhile, the Executive Mayor of the Mopani District Municipality, Councillor Pule Shayi has urged that all stakeholders continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the deceased get a befitting send off.

The details for the memorial and funeral services are as follows:

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 20 at the Ga-Rapitsi Sports Ground at 12:00.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22 at the Ga-Rapitsi Sports Grounds at 07:00.
