Hoedspruit: Mary sells colourful fabrics

Her message to other women without husbands and employment is that lack of jobs must not hinder them to provide for their families.

Mary Mutemachani is one of the African brothers and sisters from poverty stricken and politically unstable countries, who continually flocking to South Africa for a better future.

The 61 year old has been in the country for over 20 years trying to make a living and to provide for her five boys back at Harare. She has now relocated from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit since 2015 and says the locals have been supporting her fabric business.

She sells printed table clothes, hand crafted picnic baskets and table mats among others. “The community of Hoedspruit has been supporting me and I’m grateful for their support because they are helping me to pay for my sons’ university fees back at home,” explained Mary.

Her husband unfortunately passed last year, leaving her to be the sole provider to her boys.

Her message to other women without husbands and employment is that lack of jobs must not hinder them to provide for their families.

“God has given each one of us a talent, use your to make a living,” she said.

Mary is selling her items next to the Pick n Pay complex in Hoedspruit.
