HOEDSPRUIT: Moz artists turn to sculpting for provision

In quest of a better life, two Mozambican men left their families to South Africa a month ago to sell artwork.

Sculptors, James Mavota and America Tembe from Maputo are selling steel and wood artwork at Hoedspruit town next to PME supplies by the traffic lights. For the men, things have not worked out as they hoped it would, as business is extremely slow according to them.

“Sometimes we sell one product a week and at the other hand our families are dependent on us for provision,” explained Mavota.

Both men left their wives, children and grandchildren back at home and say they are heartbroken they will only return home without much for their families. Their items starts from R400 a piece and appeals to the community of Hoedspruit to support their business.

However both of them returned home for a month to fix their traveling documents and they hope to come back to a better business environment.
