HOEDSPRUIT: Hoedies continues making waves

The initiative is said to be ongoing and more donations are welcome to be made as people need all the food they can get.

The Hoedspruit Farmwatch team received more donations of parcels from the Hoedspruit community this week.

Since Cyclone Idai hit Mozambique, the Farmwatch team has been going out in full length to help the affected community of Dombe.

On Tuesday, a team from Farmwatch took to Mozambique again with donated parcels that contained canned food, water, blankets and soaps.

After having seen the initiative that unfolded through the Hlokomela Facebook page, more people showed interest to taking part and donating what they possibly could.

On Monday, the team received donations from Tansy McLean and her team.

“The Dombe area has been hit very hard – the river running through the region has swelled to over 6km’s wide. This has left many people who are still clinging to trees trying to stay alive almost a week later. Continued rescue operations are still underway airlifting victims out of trees with helicopters or with boats where possible, however the problem arising now as time continues to progress, is that they are succumbing to hypothermia and extreme exhaustion and are falling out of the trees before rescue teams can reach them,” said Lafras Tremper.
