TZANEEN: Storm drain pipes too big?

"Someone could get hurt. Why not prevent it?"

A rumored housing development near the show grounds, next to Spur, has caused locals to think twice about driving on the stretch of Agatha road in rainy weather.

Reports have been streaming in about the development’s storm water drains.
“Those storm water drains are too big. This could cause the road to flood during flash floods or a heavy rain storm. Why I say this is because the area behind the wall with the storm water drain holes in it has got a very steep gradient, which could cause a big build up of water to rush out of these holes,” explained a concerned local civil engineer.

When the LETABA HERALD visited the site we noticed that besides the size of the storm water drains, the proximity some of them have to lamp poles was also a concerning factor.

“The problem with this is, people will only start questioning the size of these drains when a big rain storm has flooded the road. Someone could get hurt. Why not prevent it?” a local resident told the HERALD.

“The storm water drainage do not pose any eminent danger to the road infrastructure however the area will be monitored to ensure that no damage is done to municipal infrastructure,” Neville Ndlala, spokesperson for the GTM, told the HERALD.
