An electricity transformer worth over half a million was stripped of copper in Letsitele on Sunday morning.

Greater Tzaneen Municipality spokesperson, Neville Ndlala confirmed that the transformer worth R600 000 was destroyed by criminals who strapped it of copper.

He said a case has been opened at Letsitele Police Station for investigation.

Attempt to get comment from Letsitele Police spokesperson, Constable Shadrack Maimela drew a blank as he referred the Herald to his superior, a Captain Manamela who claimed to be in Pretoria.
