TZANEEN: Dam levels this week

According to DWS’ Malope Matlou, the province’s average dam levels have risen to a staggering 67.1% this week, an increase of 0.08% compared to last week.

The Tzaneen Dam is slightly improving at 18% after the recent rainfall and the local residents and farmers are encouraged to continue reducing their irrigation.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) calls on water users in the province to continue using water sparingly as the dam levels are slowly recovering due to some rain that has fallen in most parts of Limpopo recently.

According to DWS’ Malope Matlou, the province’s average dam levels have risen to a staggering 67.1% this week, an increase of 0.08% compared to last week.

However, the current levels are still below last year’s figure which stood at 67.06%.

A weekly summary of Water Management Area (WMA) for Limpopo reflects a slight decrease in dam levels compared to last week when water levels were at 71.0%.

Currently, the levels are sitting at 70.9%, and in the Olifants, it is now at 65.0%, an increase of 0.8% compared to last week’s 64.2%.

The Polokwane Water Supply Systems is at 75.8%, showing a major improvement when compared to last year’s 53.1%.

In the Mopani District, Ebenezer Dam which supplies residents in the Polokwane Local Municipality, is currently at 66.27% this week.

Nsami dam in the Giyani area is currently sitting at 64.62%, a slight decline from 65.85% last week.

Whereas Merensky Dam in the BaPhalaborwa area is sitting at 101.55%.
