TZANEEN: Park street still not fixed

At first the residents were cautiously optimistic.

STILL no end in sight as the big patches of botched road in Park Street have still not been fixed by the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM).

The LETABA HERALD reported last week that the residents of Park Street are up in arms about the feeble condition of their road.

Park Street.

While the HERALD was still waiting for a response from the local municipality, on Thursday last week, the GTM sent a team of workers to fix a pothole in between these two patches.

At first the residents were cautiously optimistic, but this only resulted in another piece of patchwork to add to the other two.

“The first patch in the road has been this way for almost six months,” explained an angry resident, pointing out the different spots in the road,

“The other one above it has been like that for around six weeks! And now they’ve created another one!” He continued in disbelief.

When the HERALD asked the workers what was happening, they explained that they were sent to fix the road and that they are waiting for the machine that pours in the ready-mix tar to come.

A few hours later, around 16:00, the HERALD went back to Park Street after a resident called again and said they put all the broken pieces of tar back into the patch of road.

Once again, the HERALD talked to the workers and they explained that the machine they were waiting for would not arrive on that day or the day after.

“We did the cutting before we received our order of hot mixed asphalt and that is why we have delays. We had a plan to lay the asphalt on Friday last week but due to some logistical reasons we couldn’t, we shifted the work to Monday but the weather was not conducive. We will finalise all work in that part of the street by end of business on Tuesday, hopefully the weather won’t be a problem. We apologise for any inconvenience to residents and users of Park Street,” Neville Ndlala, media spokesperson for the GTM explained to the HERALD on Monday.
