HOEDSPRUIT: Rotary Club announces Burns Night Dinner

They intend to make this an annual event for the town.

THE Rotary Club of Hoedspruit is delighted to announce the details of their first fundraising Burns Night Dinner on Saturday, March 9.

Burns, whilst he is considered to be the National Poet of Scotland, is celebrated worldwide.

There are statues in a multitude of countries; a crater on Mercury is named after Burns; the Soviet Union honoured Burns with a commemorative stamp, marking the 160th anniversary of his death in 1956; in 2009 the Royal Mint issued a commemorative two-pound coin; and the Chinese national railways bid farewell to all long-distance trains by playing his song Auld Lang Syne.

The first supper for Robert Burns was held by his friends in Scotland in 1801 and the event has become so popular that today his memory is celebrated with Burns’ suppers worldwide.

“Single tickets are available but we are hoping that the citizens of Hoedspruit will consider buying a table for 10 and encouraging their friends and colleagues to come along with them to enjoy the glamorous occasion.

The evening will raise funds for Rotary’s various educational charity projects,” explained the Rotary Club.
