TZANEEN: Golf Academy opens for a putt or two

Throughout the years of 1982 to 2012 Ray made waves in the golf industry and helped the Limpopo Golf community become what it is today.

THE Academy of Golf has opened its doors to welcome all interested parties to come and learn about the game of golf.

The project has the full backing of Fairview’s owners, Andre and Marinda Thomas.

“I understand that the cost of playing golf is getting out of the reach of the normal income groups, with this in mind we try to keep the costs of learning and playing the game as low as possible,” explained Ray Earle, owner of the Academy of Golf.

“The part 3 golf course is a catalyst to get people to start playing. Why? Well, because it is fun,” said Earle.

The Fairview part 3 golf course Academy will be there to help players improve their quality of golf, and put more feet on the fairways of the province.

Throughout the years of 1982 to 2012 Ray made waves in the golf industry and helped the Limpopo Golf community become what it is today.

“I retired from the Polokwane Golf Academy and I had two choices to make. Either go down to Natal to my nephew – where I had the opportunity to take a coaching position at a local high school. Or I could move to Tzaneen as I promised the owners of Fairview in 2005 that I would lay out the 18 holes at Fairview,” explained Earle.

“I was giving lessons every Monday in Tzaneen while I was working on a few holes. As finances became available we worked on developing the holes. We just installed larger pipes to the course – because we had problems with the water distribution in the past. Now that we’ve got water we will finish the course,” continued Earle.

He boasts that the course will challenge the player, test his/her skills and ability to use the different types of golf irons.

The academy of golf is there for youngsters, teenagers, ladies and men to improve their game.

It’s also there if you just want to give golf a go before playing at clubs.

“You can come and we’ll give you your irons to go and try out and see if you enjoy it. Parents are welcome to come and have a chat if your child is curious and keen to play the game.”

The academy of golf will do its best to get you playing and enjoying the game.

It will teach players to appreciate the privilege of being able to play the game, to respect its values and the game’s rules, and to handle their successes humbly and to take their failures with good sportsmanship.
