MODJADJISKLOOF: Mamatlepa re-incorporated back to GLM

Mamatlepa Village in Bolobedu has been re-incorporated back into the Greater Letaba Municipality, from Giyani Municipality.

The Mayor of Greater Letaba Municipality, Peter Matlou, announced during a special Mayoral Imbizo organised to celebrate the return of the village last Thursday, January 24.

According to Matlou, Mamatlepa is the only village which was mistakenly incorporated into the Giyani Municipality by the Municipal Demarcation Board in2010.

Ward 24 is made up of four villages of which three remained in the Greater Letaba.

“Soon after residents expressed their unhappiness with the incorporation into Giyani, the municipality started with the constitutional and legal compliance process to reverse the move, which was completed recently, hence we are celebrating today,” said Matlou.

Mamatlepa Task Team secretary, Solomon Kubayi said residents experienced poor service delivery while they were still falling under Giyani Municipality and are hoping that service delivery will improve tremendously.

Community issues range from, lack of clean running water, growing demands for housing and lack of job opportunities.

Residents appealed to the municipality to frequently re-gravel their streets and access road, fencing of the graveyard, building of a library, contraction of sport facilities, extending of a local dam for agricultural purposes, street paving, fixing of high mast lights and the maintenance of diesel water pumping machine.

Responding to the community grievances, Mayor Matlou said the municipality will work with sector departments and the district municipality to address the challenges faced by the community.

Matlou thanked the community for the opportunity to engage constructively on grievances and promised to ensure that channels for communication remain open.
