1. Although Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer may be depicted and thought of as male, it may not be so. Male reindeers shed their antlers during Christmas time. So it could be that Santa’s reindeer is female!

2. Red, green and gold are symbolic of Christmas time. Wondered why? Well, green symbolises life and rebirth; red symbolises the blood of Jesus Christ and gold represents light as well as wealth and royalty.

The red and white-clad smiling Santa Claus is not just a figment of someone’s imagination, but his likeness is based on a person known as St Nikolas of Myra who lived during the fourth century and was the patron saint of banking, pawnbroking, pirating, butchery, sailing, thievery, orphans, royalty, and New York City.

4. The Christmas tree often has pride of place in many homes during the festive season. Whether real or plastic, the Christmas tree has evolved over the years. But did you know that the first Christmas tree was manufactured from dyed goose features and engineered by the Germans?

5. While most people would run a mile if they spotted a spider, the Polish revere spiders, especially during Christmas. Polish tradition believes that a spider wove a blanket for baby Jesus and consider the spider to symbolise goodness and prosperity. Spiders or spider webs are used to decorate Christmas trees.
