HOEDSPRUIT: R1 000 each for local organisations

Each of the five local organisations have become the fortunate beneficiaries of R1 000 worth of spending money at Pick n Pay

The festive period is all about the gift of giving and without spending a cent (directly), the Hoedspruit community has come together to raise over R5 000 for five local organisations that are so close to many of our hearts.

Each of the five organisations have become the fortunate beneficiaries of R1 000 worth of spending money at Pick n Pay, all thanks to the generosity of the town and the owners of Pick n Pay Hoedspruit.

Nationwide, Pick n Pay ran a ‘Bonus Stamps’ initiative from the beginning of October this year until Sunday, November 18. For every R150 spent in store, shoppers received a R5 stamp to add to their Bonus Stamp card.

Once the card was full with 20 stamps, it could be handed over for the shopper to claim a R100 voucher to be spent in store.

Despite the last day for stamp collection being November 18, the cards are redeemable until Sunday, December 30.

Many residents were left with half-filled cards at the end of the promotion and so local resident Brass Brassett initiated the idea of collating everyone’s half-filled or partly-filled cards, using social media as the platform to spread the word.

Additionally, Pick n Pay themselves had also collected cards along the way, with some shoppers not interested in taking the R5 stamps. The cashiers therefore began to fill cards from the unwanted stamps and kept them at the tills.

The community came together with enormous spirit and with all the donated cards, Pick n Pay managed to fill 52 cards worth of stamps, equating to R5 200 worth of vouchers!

These were be split between five worthy causes in town, namely: PAWS, Hoedspruit Animal Outreach (HALO), Nourish, Care Buddies and Hoedspruit Alley Cat Initiative. On Friday, December 14, a representative from each organisation collected the stamp cards from the Hoedspruit store and the shopping commenced!

Yet again, the Hoedspruit community comes up trumps for local worthy causes.
