Remember the Letaba SPCA this festive season

If you have an open bag of food that your dog has turned its nose up to, feel free to donate it!

Here’s a few things to remember about the SPCA and your local dog rescue facilities such as PAWS this festive season:

– If you have set your heart on a new furry edition to the family this Christmas, then don’t forget PAWS or the SCPA. The kennels are currently full of an eclectic bunch of doggies looking for their second chance! There are puppies and oldies, purebreds and mixed breeds, tall ones and short ones, chunky ones and athletic ones, naughty ones and angelic ones! And they are all looking for a new home to snuggle up in. Adopt, don’t shop this Christmas!

– The SPCA has seen a huge increase in animals being surrendered this December. Why you may ask? Are families casting out the older dogs and cats in order to get a new, kitten or puppy for Christmas? Or is it down to the financial squeeze? Well nobody has an answer for it but the SPCA are running extremely low on food for the huge number of animals in their care. Why not drop off a bag of food and put some wag back into a dog’s tail?

– Food donations don’t need to be the most expensive brand or in the highest volume. If you have an open bag of food that your dog has turned its nose up to, feel free to donate it! Grab just one tin of wet food when you do your next food shop. If we all did it, it would make a huge difference.

– Donations in the form of toys and blankets are also welcome. Teach your child the gift of giving this Christmas and let them choose a toy for the dogs and cats at the SPCA and hand deliver it to the woofies and kitties.

– Report cruelty! Has your neighbour gone away for the festive season and just left a bowl of food out? This is cruelty! Report it to the SPCA.

– Report lost pets to the SPCA. Make sure your pet-sitter has the contact details for the local SPCA and veterinary surgeries. Should your beloved pet escape this festive period, be sure to report it to the SPCA. There is an option to do this online too.
