Prisoners from the Tzaneen area escape police custody

The Police officers in Polokwane have launched a manhunt of five trial awaiting prisoners who escaped custody on Wednesday afternoon.

The Police officers in Polokwane have launched a manhunt for five trial awaiting prisoners who escaped custody yesterday afternoon.

“It is alleged that the prisoners were being transported from Haenertsburg Police Station outside Tzaneen to Polokwane when they allegedly jumped from the back of a moving police van in the city of Polokwane at the corner of Hospital and Landros Maree streets,” explained Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Spokesperson of SAPS Limpopo.

The fugitives are identified as, Thomas Nkuna (34) from Rwanda village in the N’wamitwa area outside Tzaneen and also staying in Wisani village in the Mhlaba-Cross, Jeffrey Nkuna (27) from Rwanda village, George Nkuna (19) from Wisani village in the Mhlaba-Cross area outside Tzaneen, Abel Modiba also known as ‘ABSA’ (31) from Motjeteng village near Lenyenye outside Tzaneen.

One prisoner who was initially arrested for a house robbery committed in the Haenertsburg policing area, was re-arrested shortly after the escape.

The case of escaping from lawful custody was opened in this regard.
