TZANEEN:Bakgaga ba Maake community, celebrate the ploughing season

The community of Bakgaga Village ruled by the Maake Dynasty, under the chieftancy of Kgoshigadi Mothoka Bessie Maake, celebrated and welcomed the rainy season in grand style on Saturday as is the custom, dressed in colourful beautiful traditional outfits on Saturday.

Amongst the guests was keynote speaker, Mayor of Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Maripe Mangena, members from the Baroka National Unity, Baroka Community Trust, Traditional Councils and Ward Councillors.

Thapelo Gift Mabula, the events co-ordinator presented a self- made portrait of the chief and spoke about the preservation of historical and cultural artifacts.

The history of the Bakgaga ba Maake was shared dating back from 1700AD accompanied by poetry shared in the form of oral traditions passed down from one generation to the next.

Mangena said, “The commemoration of historical events is of crucial importance.

“As we promote farming and celebrate our culture, we must not forget the importance of education to better equip our children.”

The event was wrapped up in style as guests dined and enjoyed traditional dances.
