UPDATE: Giraffe and calf to be relocated after attack in Hoedspruit
This after Katy and her three year old son, Finn, were left critically injured after they were trampled by a giraffe on an estate in the Hoedspruit area last Monday, September 3.
Estate Manager of Blyde Wildlife Estate Riaan Cilliers has confirmed that they have facilitated the process to relocate the giraffe and her calf to another reserve.
This after Katy and her three year old son, Finn, were left critically injured after they were trampled by a giraffe on an estate in the Hoedspruit area last Monday, September 3.

Once all the procedures and requirements are in place, the giraffe will be relocated.
He also confirmed that the estate is home to many different species of plains game only. Dangerous animals such as lions, elephants, buffalo, rhino, or leopards do not occur in the area where the Williams family resides.
“Animal behaviour can be unpredictable, and can change when there are young ones around,” Cilliers said in a statement.
Katy’s recovery is going well and her condition is improving daily. She understands that it will take time to recover fully, but she has a positive attitude and she is surprising doctors with her rapid progress. She is communicating by writing words and sentences on paper, and she has written to ask Sam to thank everyone for their overwhelming support so far on her behalf.
Finn is still sedated, but he is beginning to wake up. As his sedatives are reduced and he starts to regain consciousness his medical team expect to gain further indications of the severity of his injuries.
“We can confirm that he is breathing independently, and we hope to have more information in the near future.” Marina Botha said on behalf of the family.
