The Department of Agriculture in partnership with the Greater Tzaneen Municipality hosted an Agri Youth Career Expo at the Nkowankowa Stadium on Friday, August 24.
The aim of the event was to teach young learners about the opportunities and the need for studying agricultural courses at a tertiary level. Different learners form local schools with their teachers honoured the occasion and absorbed all the information given to them.
The University of Limpopo, University of Venda, Tompi Seleka Agricultural College and Greater Makgoba Economic Development Agency (PTY) Ltd exhibited. Local female farmers were present to give their wisdom and to also encourage the young future farmers.

Young Farmers Award Winner Tshepiso Mametja, promised to open her doors to the university students for practical training at her farm in Sekororo.
Mametja currently has 40 permanent employees and 60 seasonal employees on her green bean, sweetcorn, sheep and goat farm called Maswela Farming. “I’m urging all young people and young entrepreneurs to take advantage of the many doors the government has opened in agriculture.
“Go to an Agri College or a university and enrol. When we produce our own food as South Africans, we are providing more food for our people and it boots our economy,” explained Mametja.
The learners were given pamphlets and bursary forms from the Department of Agriculture and the different colleges and universities exhibiting.
