Tzaneen: Police nab fugitive after three months of being on the run

The police have made a major breakthrough after arresting a suspected murderer who has been running from the police for three months.

The Tzaneen Tracing Team (TTT), arrested Charles Sekgotlaboraga (26) from Thabina Village in the Maake area outside Tzaneen, who is accused of killing his girlfriend, Magotso Maimane (48) in May at his home.

“On the day of the murder the police were called to the crime scene and when they got there Sekgotlaboraga acted as if he was the uncle of the deceased and showed us the scene. When the police got inside the house, he escaped and was nowhere to be found until he was arrested by TTT on Saturday, August 18 in Lephalale,” explained Constable Emmanuel Manabe, Maake SAPS’ Spokesman.

The TTT members were tipped off about his whereabouts in Gauteng and an arrangement made to arrest him there, but to no avail. However, the team managed to arrest him in Lephalale as the bus that he travelling on from Pretoria arrived there.

He briefly appeared before the Maake Magistrate Court on Monday and his case has been postponed to August 27.

“We see his arrest as a breakthrough, because he was one of the most wanted suspects who committed a serious crime, the good news is that he was caught in Women’s month for allegedly killing a woman,” concluded Manabe.
