TZANEEN: Man accused of stabbing lover at work in court

The mother of four is in a critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Letaba Hospital.

A 50 year-old man who is accused of stabbing 15 times his lover (32) appeared briefly at the Nkowankowa Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

The man has been charged with a case of attempted murder and his matter has been remanded to August 14.

He is accused of brutally stabbing the mother of his child who is an employee at Letaba Hospital on Monday morning while she was at work.

The mother of four is in a critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Letaba Hospital.

Witnesses say that the man came to the hospital as he normally did and he asked to see his partner and when she came out to see him he grabbed her and stabbed immediately.

Security officers were called to the scene where they rescued the woman from the man.

In the same ward another young mother from Mariveni Village outside Tzaneen was also stabbed multiple times by the father of her child last week.

The MEC for Health in Limpopo, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, has condemned these acts of domestic violence after visiting the patient at hospital.

“It is very disappointing to see our young women being abused in such a manner, especially in the dawn of women’s month.

” Our young women must not stay in abusive relationships, once he hits you that should be a red flag.

“Mothers should also not force their children to get married, especially to abusive men all in the name of marriage.

“They must encourage the young women to get an education and to enjoy their lives with or without marriage, “Ramathuba explained.

 

She also acknowledged the great work of Surgeon Letsoalo who helped saved the lives of the young women.

The MEC reassured the hospital employees that the hospital will tighten their security measures to make sure that all staff and patients are safe.

She also promised to deal with the security company working at the institution after the security officers allowed the man to walk out of the hospital without being apprehended.

At the time of going to press the man was not arrested, however Ramathuba promised to involve the police authorities to make sure that the man is arrested.
