HAENERTSBURG: Race to the summit

All three trail routes had superb views of Ebenezer Dam, Haenertsburg village and the surrounding area.

The annual Iron Crown trail run took place on Saturday and the event participants could not have asked for a better morning.

With the winter sun beating down, it made for a morning of spectacular views as the entrants of the 21.1 km route climbed 687 m from 1439 m in the village of Haenertsburg to the top of the Iron Crown, the highest point in Limpopo at 2126 m.

Marika Schmidt and Christiani van Niekerk were all smiles after completing the challenging 10 km event.

For the less adventurous and less fit, 5 km and 10 km routes were available with the 10 km route rising to 1600 m.

All three trail routes had superb views of Ebenezer Dam, Haenertsburg village and the surrounding area.

All participants enjoyed the trails through village streets, earth roads, firebreaks and single-track footpaths.
