Detective Constable Harry Nchabeleng (35), who is stationed at Mankweng Police Station was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Unit on Thursday for alleged corruption following a Money Market fraudulent transaction which occurred in one of the major supermarkets in Tzaneen during October 2016.

The Hawks spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke, said Nchabeleng was investigating a case of fraud regarding a Money Market fraudulent transaction when he allegedly committed the crime.
“Instead of effecting an arrest, the investigating officer, Nchabeleng allegedly approached the suspect and demanded R3 000 bribe in order to derail the case.
The complainant reported the matter to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Unit, and the suspect was arrested following an intensive investigation,” said Maluleke. Nchabeleng was granted a R1000 bail when he appeared in court on Friday and his case was postponed to August 14.
