Following on from today’s report of an underground fire at Palaborwa Copper (better known as PMC) mine in Phalaborwa, three more workers have been confirmed dead. The current death toll from this tragic incident now stands at five.
Earlier today, Palaborwa Copper released an official press statement stating that two mine employees had lost their lives following on from a tragic fire that occurred underground.
According to the press statement, four more workers were reportedly trapped and subsequently three of them have been confirmed dead. The status of the last mine worker is not yet known.
The first two employees who lost their lives have been named as Elliot Maake and Vula Eckson Mayindi.
