Tango Talks Tzaneen: A learning curve

Whilst Jack puts on his doggy cape and turns into a local hero, here's me barely able to walk in a straight line without tripping over myself and pretty much unable to go through a day without messing something up.

It’s been a while since I left my barking mad opinion and some of my followers have been asking where I’ve been so I thought it was time to mark my territory in this week’s edition of the paper.

So last week my four-legged friend and mini-me ‘Jack’ was inducted as an official Lion. At first I was pretty jealous but the green-eyed monster soon turned to making me feel rather inferior. There is Jack destined for incredible things in the community of Tzaneen, to provide comfort and relief to people suffering from unimaginable pain and hardship, both physically and mentally.

Whilst Jack puts on his doggy cape and turns into a local hero, here’s me barely able to walk in a straight line without tripping over myself and pretty much unable to go through a day without messing something up. Mom says I am like a bull in a china shop.

She took me to the AvoFest recently but my outing didn’t last long – I knocked over a bunch of benches at the bar area and went in a bit fast whilst trying to give a toddler a loving kiss. I basically just torpedoed my face into hers and she went flying backwards. Mom decided to rather take me home after that. So seeing Jack amount to great things made me feel a little down and dejected.

But then I heard about a speech that was given recently at the Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon. A lady called Rosanne Steyn said something that stuck with me, “Every job exists for a reason, it is all part of a bigger picture. People who understand their job’s wider purpose are happier, more engaged, and more creative.”

Then I realised, my purpose in this life is different to Jack’s and that is completely OK. I don’t need to compare myself or try and be something I am not.

So what is my purpose? To make people laugh and put a smile on their face. I don’t have the poise, patience or composure to become a true therapy dog like Jack. My personality is different. I am clumsy, boisterous and cheeky and I get myself into all manner of situations but I make my human Mom and Dad laugh every single day.

And everyone I meet on the streets thinks I am hilarious. They are mainly laughing at me, but that’s OK. I will readily be the ‘class clown’ as long as it makes other people happy.

So there it is, there is my learning curve. I should never be envious of what others have or who they are. I am me and that’s good enough!
