A book for the people

His deep message to young aspiring writers is that they must not write for money but write to inspire others...

MESHACK Mathe (21), from Mtititi Lombard village in Malamulele under Collins Chabane Local Municipality has written his first book titled ‘Drowning in own tears’.

According to him, the book addresses the day-to-day struggles that ordinary South Africans face because of political motivated poverty that has been in existence since the middle nineties.

“I have realized that people in our communities are living in severe poverty and decided to write about their daily poverty [struggles] such as lack of food, shelter, water and electricity.

“These problems have been there for quite some time now and I hope with this book, it will motivate our government and people with authority to do something about these conditions,” said Mathe He began writing articles for newspapers and magazines in 2013 and soon people were requesting him to use his penmanship skills to write a book.

“I have been writing articles for magazines and newspapers that were doing well as far as winning is concerned, while people demanded that I should write a book. I listened to them and it indeed paid off,” he said.

His deep message to young aspiring writers is that they must not write for money but write to inspire others because if they write for money it will compromise the message.

“I have realised that there is a big gap in South African literature compared to other countries, something that is also happening in the film industry. People want to take contents from other countries, so in my quest I want to change that idea by having my book being taught at schools and be in all libraries,” he added.

He has a background in administration studies and is currently studying Film Production with AFDA. His elder brother, Tiyiselani Mathe, has described him as a hard worker and discipline child who is always committed to his work and studies.

“Meshack is an obedient someone who always gives respect to the elders. He loves and is passionate about writing and creating films,” he explained.
