Tzaneen: Warm meals and warmed hearts

Letaba Bassmasters in partnership with Debonairs, Fishaways and Giramundo (Lifestyle Shopping Centre) as well as Steers and the SASOL garage (on the R71) donated a hot meal consisting of a chicken burger, chips, doughnuts and juice to 49 children from Noah's Ark Children's Home on Monday.

Their Good Samaritan work began in 2016, when the Letaba Bassmasters Angling Club were inspired by the Good Morning Angels campaign on Jacaranda FM to raise funds for young Tzaneen resident, Imke Geldenhuys, who was battling with stage 4 Neuroblastoma.

The Good Morning Angels had managed to raise R25 000.00 for Imke.

Vanmelle Nel and Wayne Kurten from the local angling club believed they could do the same and through various means, managed to raise a total sum of R26,100.00.

This was just the beginning of the outreach efforts by Letaba Bassmasters.

Soon, they were put in contact with Ouma Tiena who assists at a school in Duiwelskloof and they knew they needed to do something to provide nourishing meals to the children.

The Letaba Bassmasters then contacted the Debonairs group at Lifestyle Centre and the ‘doughnation’ campaign began to donate freshly baked bread and pitas to the needy children with the leftover dough from the food retail outlet.

Soon, more beneficiaries were added and the Bassmasters now aim to support Noah’s Ark Children’s Home, God’s Haven Care Centre and Pioneers Old Age Home as well.

All four beneficiaries receive donations on a rotation basis and further donations in the form of fruit and vegetables are also made.

Most recently, the angling group aim to provide one hot meal per month to one of the four beneficiaries.

In order to complete this generous task, they have partnered with Debonairs, Fishaways and Giramundo (Lifestyle Shopping Centre) as well as Steers and the SASOL garage (on the R71).

Noah’s Ark Children’s Home rely greatly on support from our community and there are a few areas where further assistance is needed.

Should you wish to be able to donate any of the following; second hand clothes; food such as rice, pasta, sugar, toilet paper, nappies (size 3 and 5) or wet wipes, you can contact Sylvie Delsouiller on 082 573 8383.

Additionally, as they support 24 children of school-going age, financial contributions are also welcome.
