Water crisis in Bolobedu South soon to be over

Residents of Bolobedu South, outside Tzaneen will soon be relieved from a lack of water.

Water availabilty has remained a crisis in rural Bolobedu for many years.

With the current initiative started in May 2018 by the Mopani District Municipality (MDM) to erect water pipes from the local Thapane Dam, residents of surrounding villages feel their cries are answered. Water pipes are being imbedded beside the main road.

The villages which will benefit from this project will, among others, be: Thapane, Fobeni, Leretjeni, Leokwe and Morutji. Apparently residents have been buying water from houses with boreholes and have had to go to nearby rivers to wash their clothes.

“We have to go to the river to wash our clothes and fetch water for bathing because water is expensive, we cannot buy water for bathing as well as washing clothes, so we are happy with the project,” said Mankwana Moagi, a resident of Fobeni village.

The headman of Thapane village, Ramathoka Danny, has as well applauded the MDM for the work that they have initiated in their community, “This was a long awaited project and we had almost given up our hopes, but now we see that the people we are leading finally will receive clean water.”

The taxi rank will be closed during the day due to the construction going on, but an alternative road is provided for cars.

That does not bother commuters and taxi operators as the project is benefiting them as well.

The road is closed between 8:00 am and 17:00 pm. One of the taxi drivers said that they are co-operating with the contractors to ensure that, at the end of the day, all parties are satisfied, “We are working well with the contractors, because we know that we are going to drink the water. As long as there is an alternative road provided, we are fine with it,” one of the taxi drivers told the LETABA HERALD.

Residents in the area are assured that they will receive water as early as possible. The headmen are assuring that this project gets their full support.
