TZANEEN: Batteries recovered in foiled robbery attempt

Security personnel gave chase after the Toyota bakkie. When it finally came to a stop, the driver fled on foot.

Stolen batteries worth as much as R64 000 were recovered in Tzaneen on Sunday.

According to Tzaneen SAPS spokesperson, Captain Joseph Moseri, three suspects were seen stealing batteries from an MTN tower on Jopie Botha street.

Police were called but private security personnel were first on scene.

Tools were also recovered.

It is alleged that two of the suspects ran away at the site of the theft and the driver of the vehicle sped off.

The security vehicles gave chase after the Toyota bakkie.

The vehicle came to a stop in Aqua Avenue close to Jetty 3, where the driver fled into nearby bushes and abandoned the vehicle.

Tools and sixteen batteries were recovered.

None of the suspects were apprehended.
