MODJADJISKLOOF: Residents protest against lack of services

Their grievances included the high electricity bills which they claim resulted from the poor billing system.

Scores of Modjadjiskloof residents on Wednesday morning blockaded Botha Street at the entrance of municipal offices with their vehicles and concrete rubbish bins in protest against lack of service delivery.

They accused the Greater Letaba Municipality of failing to fulfill promises made to the community. Some waved placards which reads: We need services, not empty promises.

Their grievances included the high electricity bills which they claim resulted from the poor billing system.

Residents unblocked the street after the management agreed during the meeting to address their grievances.

Acting municipal spokesperson, Abram Mantlhakga, promised that the ball valve will be replaced before the end of business today.

On the demand for the installation of pre-paid electricity meters, Mantlhakga said a contractor has been appointed and they will appoint another contractor for vending of electricity coupons by Friday, April 6.

He called on those facing challenges regarding the electricity bills to come and make arrangements with the municipality.

Meanwhile, spokesperson for the residents, Micheal Rametsi promised unspecified ‘harsh’ actions if the municipality fail to fulfill its promises.
