Cash-in-transit heist: four suspects in custody

Three more have been suspects were arrested in Gauteng and Muplumalanga in connection with the cash-in-transit robbery in the Motetema Policing area outside Groblersdal on February 12.

The first suspect was arrested at the scene on the day of the incident. This brings the number of suspects arrested to four.

Following the incident the Provincial Tracking Team embarked on an Intelligence led operation, working tirelessly around the clock to track the suspects involved in this incident until they were cornered and nabbed,  said Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

A firearm, a Ford Ranger vehicle (which is believed to be one of the cars used during the robbery) and cash (believed to some of the cash which was damaged during this robbery) were recovered during the arrests.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the recovered Ford Ranger was hijacked in Mooinooi in the North West Province during January 2018.

The arrested suspects (aged around their 20’s and 30’s) will appear before the Motetema Magistrates Court soon on various charges including armed robbery.
