School learners benefit from donated shoes

Hundreds of learners from two primary schools at Ngove village each received a pair of shoes from Ngove Youth Foundation (NYF) in conjunction with Labora Footwear and Caprini Company based in Durban.

Speaking at the event, the chairperson of the foundation, Malwandla Mabunda, said the donation was aimed at motivating youth to attend school in order to improve on the poor performance shown by public schools in the recent matric results.

“During our times education was never a priority and no one came to offer us any help, hence we’re here today to donate school shoes and books to the less fortunate learners,” he said.

The two primary schools that received the donation were Vahlave and M.K Khambani primary schools.

Apart from school shoes, the schools also received 200 books each as a backup to what the government had already given to all public schools in the country.

This year marks the third year since the NYF committed itself to giving back to the community.

In the previous years, its donation was focused on supporting the local high school called Gija-Ngove.

However, this year the organisation has moved its support to primary schools.

Meanwhile, Chief Ngove welcomed the organisation’s support to the local schools and urged the organisers to do even more to encourage learners from poor backgrounds to attend school.

“As a traditional leader, I feel honoured to have raised youth that realises the importance of education and willing to support and encourage the young ones to follow in their footsteps,” he said.
