Beware of online shopping scams

The Hoedspruit Police calls upon the community to be vigilant regarding online shopping.

“This comes after several complaints have been logged at the Hoedspruit police station. Criminals post photographs of items on social media platforms which they pretend to be selling and victims organise with the owner for a payment and all is paid up, the suspect disappears with the money,” stated Sergeant Livhuwani Mulaudzi, Hoedspruit police spokesperson.

A recent PricewaterhouseCoopers report indicates that 32% of South Africans have been a victim of cyber-related crime in the past year, in line with the global average.

The study also highlights that cyber crime is now the fourth most reported crime in South Africa.
