TZANEEN: Residents encouraged to use water sparingly
'Tzaneen Dam is at 45,72% showing no improvement.'
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) encourages water users to continue using water sparingly even though we have seen some rains in some parts of the province recently but provincial dams have not yet fully recovered.
The province’s average dam levels are at 69,4% , which shows a slight decline compared to last week when reading recorded 70,0%.
There is a considerable improvement compared to 44,7% last year however it is not satisfying enough hence people must at all-time conserve water.
“Looking at the summary of Water Management Area (WMA) for Limpopo, last year this time the water levels were at 52,8% where as now we are at 77,5%,” said the Department of Water and Sanitation spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau.
The Polokwane Water Supply Systems is at 57,1% showing a decline when compared to 59,2% last week.
The Luvuvhu Water Supply Systems has a slight decline, sitting at 94, 0% compared to 94,1% last week.
Nandoni Dam currently stands at 97, 54% this week which brings relief to communities.
Also Ebenezer Dam still remains at 93, 17%, whilst Tzaneen Dam is at 45, 72% showing no improvement.
“Again communities are urged to play a big role in ensuring that the little that they have is able to sustain them by saving water. In relation to the provincial storage, the situation is still satisfying, but the province still needs to continue to implement water restrictions to allow for smooth recovery,” he said.
